H1N1 Flu Vaccine Clinic 11.21.09
Please disregard this message if your child has already received one round of the H1N1 flu vaccine. Booster shot information will be handled in a different update.
Attention parents of Blue Fish Pediatrics: there will be a H1N1 flu vaccine clinic on Saturday, November 21, 2009. The flu vaccine will be available ONLY to Blue Fish patients. There is a good supply of both the injection and intranasal vaccine. We will be vaccinating up to 680 patients.
High risk (i.e. asthmatic) patients will receive an injectable H1N1 flu vaccine.
Patients 2 years and older (without additional risk factors) will be given the option of either the intranasal vaccine or the injectable H1N1 flur vaccine.
Patients under 2 years old will receive an injectable H1N1 flu vaccine. Any intranasal vaccine cannot be given within 28 days of any other intranasal vaccine. For example, if a patient recived the intranasal seasonal flu vaccine AND it has not been 28 days since they received it, they will need to receive an injectable H1N1 flu vaccine.
Due to limited supply, parents will not be vaccinated (including those with children less than 6 months of age).
For more information as to who can recieve the H1N1 flu vaccine, please read the H1N1 Flu Vaccine Waiver.

The Saturday H1N1 flu vaccine clinic will begin at 7:00 AM and will end at 2:00 PM. In order to reduce the wait time, we will be implementing a ticketing system. There will be a set amount of tickets for every thirty minute period from 7:00 to 2:00 handed out on a first-come-first-serve basis.
There will be four separate stations where will be distributing the first four available time slots. All parents will also receive a packet of information regarding the H1N1 flu vaccine before receiving a time ticket. This packet will include information on which type of vaccine will be administered to your child and a list of FAQs (frequently asked questions) and answers.
To illustrate: vaccines will be given out starting at 7:00 AM. Parents who arrive before 7:00 AM will be given a packet of information about the H1N1 flu vaccine and a name slip (to be filled out for each child receiving the vaccine). They will then have their choice of getting a ticket for either 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, or 8:30 AM. When all tickets for any given time slot have been handed out, that station will automatically become the 9:00 AM time slot, and so on until all the tickets for 1:30 PM – 2:00 PM have been distributed. Once you have a ticket, in order to maintain a safe and orderly environment we ask that families return home and come back at the appropriate time.
There will be a limited number of tickets distributed based on vaccine availability. There will be a staff member standing by to handle all questions not answered in the packet. For the sake of efficiency, we kindly ask that parents read through the entire packet prior to asking questions. A list of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) have been also been included.
Please, do not call the office for a H1N1 flu vaccine appointment. The H1N1 flu vaccine will only be offered at the weekend H1N1 flu vaccine clinics. No phone call or prior notification is necessary for this.
Payment
Although the vaccine itself is free, the cost of administering the vaccine falls on the patient and/or insurance companies. We are keeping with the standard set by other providers in the area. Please read the following carefully.
Cash paying patients: Due to the unexpected cost of administering the H1N1 flu vaccine, the cost will now be $20 for injection or intranasal.
Medicaid and CHIP: The vaccine is covered by your insurance as long as we have the H1N1 flu vaccine in stock.
Commercial Insurance: We will not be claiming the administration fee to your insurance company, so you will only pay the cash price of $20.00. Please contact your insurance company if you have any further questions.
